Fantastic News!

Wednesday, March 18

I just had a conversation with my onchologist, Dr. Aboulafia. Also a separate conversation with my urologist, Dr. Pritchett, who performed the recent surgery on me. Both said the pathology report came back from the lab and it is .... (drum roll)

+ negative for neuroendrocine cancer in my old bladder (this is the small cell cancer that is so worrisome and aggressive)
+ a small amount of regular cancer cells in my old bladder in one spot (this is the normal bladder cancer that is pretty treatable)
+ a small amount of pre-cancer in my prostate
+ no signs of cancer in 14 different lymph nodes

Since my bladder was removed, the finding of cancer there doesn't matter.
Since my prostate was removed, the finding of cancer there isn't a worry.
No finding of cancer in the 14 lymph nodes removed is just good news.

So, the main thing is that it looks like the chemo therapy and surgery have been very successful! I feel very lucky to have had such good medical care and great support from all of you!!

On a separate, but related note - the nose tube came out this morning (a nasty experience all the way around)! Now I can breathe, blow my nose, walk around without the nuisance of a hose hanging down. Think I'll go shave

Jim,
This is the first I've seen of your blog. Thanks go to Linda P for sending it out.
Sounds like the best news that anyone could hope for. Congratulations for surviving the dreaded "C" and you have my best wishes for your continued healing.
Enjoy the time off that you have with your family. You'll be back at the dog pound before you know it!
Keep up the attitude of gratitude -nothing ensures healing more than knowing how lucky you are to be alive.
Take good care of yourself and get lots of rest and fresh air. Nature has a way about her that nothing matches.
See you soon. Mary-Ellen V.
